Enjoy MGO™ Manuka Honey off the spoon, with food such as toast or drizzled over porridge, or add to a hot drink when you are feeling a little under the weather.

Yes, just wait until the water is off the boil so you don’t destroy the delicate MGO™ compounds.

There are only four short weeks a year that the Manuka bushes in the remote mountains of New Zealand are covered in tiny white flowers. During these four weeks bees are extremely busy gathering the nectar to make the honey. In fact, it takes 2,000 honeybees make 10 million trips to make just one pot of honey. The length of this short window, weather conditions, the remote nature of harvesting and the exceptional quality of the honey makes it very valuable. So much so that worldwide demand for genuine Manuka Honey is at an all-time high and is overtaking supply. If you spot a cheap manuka honey on the market, it’s probably not the real thing. Genuine Manuka Honey only comes from New Zealand. Blends should clearly state on the label if the Manuka Honey is blended with other honeys. Look for 100% New Zealand origin Manuka honey on the label and make sure the certified amount of MGO™ is listed on the label to ensure you are getting the real deal.

MGO™ and UMF are simply different ways to measure Manuka Honey. We use the MGO™ rating system as it is the most accurate and is directly proportional to the amount of methylglyoxal in the honey.

Manuka Health was one of the founding members of the UMFHA (Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association) which created a five-marker test to prove Manuka authenticity. MGO™ and other compounds which are unique to Manuka honey are tested. Levels of these chemicals vary according to whether the nectar is collected from only manuka bushes or from a variety of plants, or whether manuka is mixed with other honeys.

Supermarkets selling cheap Manuka Honey may be offering Manuka with a variety of active ingredients which may vary from batch to batch. What the consumer gets from a UMFHA member is guarantee of quality product. Look for the certified amount of MGO™ (methylglyoxal) on the label to ensure you are getting the real deal, and the right strength for your needs.

Yes, Manuka honey is safe to eat, both while pregnant and breastfeeding.

Yes you can but it would be quite messy. We suggest you try our skin patches or breast pads which have high grade MGO™ 400+ honey impregnated onto a sterile dressing.
